Retaining Walls
Built with the drainage behind it done properly.

How does retaining walls work?
A retaining wall is a structure holding back a lot of weight, and the part that decides whether it lasts is the part you never see, the base, the drainage and the backfill behind it.
We build timber sleeper, concrete sleeper and block walls with agricultural drainage, free-draining backfill and a compacted base, so water has a way out instead of pushing on the wall.
Where a wall needs engineering or council approval, we'll say so before quoting a build.
- Free, fixed-price quotes, no surprises
- Right tools and techniques for your plants and surfaces
- Fully insured, owner-operated

FAQ
Retaining Walls, your questions answered
Does a retaining wall need council approval?
Often above a certain height, and rules differ between councils. Anything structural or near a boundary should be checked, and we'll tell you when a job needs engineering or approval rather than working around it.
Why do retaining walls fail?
Almost always drainage. Water builds up behind a wall with nowhere to go and pushes it over. Proper drainage and backfill behind the wall matter more than the facing material.
How often should I have this done?
It depends on the job and the season, lawns and hedges want a regular rhythm through the warmer months, while bigger garden work is usually a once or twice a year thing. We will suggest an interval that suits your yard, and on a Golden Circle Membership plan we track the timing so it never gets forgotten.
Do I need to be home while you work?
Not necessarily. As long as we can get to the yard and to an outdoor tap if the job needs water, plenty of our residential work is done while you're out, we confirm everything beforehand and send photos when it's finished.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, Golden Landscaping is fully insured, and we're owner-operated, so the person who quotes your job is the person responsible for the result.
Is the quote really free and fixed?
Yes. Quotes are free and fixed, you'll know the price before we start, with no hourly meter and no surprises on the invoice. A quick call with a couple of photos is usually all we need.
Do you take the green waste away?
Yes. Clippings, prunings and garden debris can be mulched back where that suits, left in your green bin, or taken away with us, just tell us which you would prefer when you book.
