Pruning

Cuts made in the right place, at the right time of year.

Pruning, Golden Landscaping, Sydney

How does pruning work?

Good pruning is mostly about restraint and timing. Cutting in the wrong place or the wrong season costs you a season of flowers, and repeated bad cuts leave plants misshapen for years.

We prune shrubs, ornamentals, small trees, climbers and fruit trees to improve shape, airflow and next season's growth, removing dead, crossing and diseased wood first, then shaping what's left.

Where a plant is better left alone until later in the year, we'll say so instead of cutting it for the sake of the visit.

FAQ

Pruning, your questions answered

When is the right time to prune?

It depends on the plant. Flowering shrubs are usually pruned after they flower, and many natives prefer a light trim to a hard cut. We'll prune what's in season and tell you what's better left for later.

Do you prune large trees?

We handle small trees and shrubs from the ground. Anything requiring climbing, large limb removal or work near powerlines needs a qualified arborist, and we'll say so rather than take it on.

How often should I have this done?

It depends on the job and the season, lawns and hedges want a regular rhythm through the warmer months, while bigger garden work is usually a once or twice a year thing. We will suggest an interval that suits your yard, and on a Golden Circle Membership plan we track the timing so it never gets forgotten.

Do I need to be home while you work?

Not necessarily. As long as we can get to the yard and to an outdoor tap if the job needs water, plenty of our residential work is done while you're out, we confirm everything beforehand and send photos when it's finished.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, Golden Landscaping is fully insured, and we're owner-operated, so the person who quotes your job is the person responsible for the result.

Is the quote really free and fixed?

Yes. Quotes are free and fixed, you'll know the price before we start, with no hourly meter and no surprises on the invoice. A quick call with a couple of photos is usually all we need.

Do you take the green waste away?

Yes. Clippings, prunings and garden debris can be mulched back where that suits, left in your green bin, or taken away with us, just tell us which you would prefer when you book.
